How To Figure It Out
Not sure what career path to take? Do you have an interest of study, but aren't sure it's right for you? Well, I have a simple solution, do some homework! I know, this sounds bad, but the age of procrastination has geared us to ignore tasks that aren't given a demanding label so the trick is to make finding your perfect major a sort of research project.
Step One:
Pick an area of interest and focus on all aspects of that field including college curriculum requirements and job opportunities.
Step Two:
Utilize libraries and the web to gather information and sort out what you like most about that field and what you could do without.
Step Three:
Talk with people who are involved with that field. This could be professors who teach in that department, college counselors, or best of all, students who are studying that topic.
Step Four:
Put it all together and reflect. Are you still interested? Is this something you think you would enjoy doing for the rest of your life. Are the requirements manageable?

I'll spare you the cliches and just say that this is a long process. You may even have to do it more than once if you discover that your original choice of study isn't right for you. However, if you put in the effort now you can save yourself lots of time and money by knowing exactly what you need to do to get your dream degree. A college professor once asked my math class how many of us planned on graduating. All of our hands shot up. He then asked how many of us knew what classes we would be taking in the Spring semester two years from that moment. One student raised her hand. "So only one of you plans to graduate" was the professor's reply. The point he was making is very important. If we don't figure out what we want out of college and actively make a plan to get what we want, we will not be successful. I hope these steps set you on the right path to earning a degree that will be worth every lost hour of sleep, every party passed up to study, and every day of the rest of your life.
